Chemistry 11 Model Papers – Chapter 8 – Punjab Textbook Board

Teachers and students! “Insight Model Papers for First Year Chemistry, Chapter 8” are present before you. As the chapter name “Chemical Equilibrium” indicates, it is about reversible reactions, the reactions that proceed in both forward and reverse directions. Related topics like Law of mass action, equilibrium constant and its applications, Le-Chatelier’s principle, synthesis of ammonia by Haber’s process, synthesis of sulphur trioxide by contact process, ionization constant of water, pH & pOH, dissociation constant of acids and bases, Lowery-Bronsted acid base concept, common ion effect, buffer & buffer capacity, and solubility product, all are discussed in detail here. These concepts are further clarified with the help of numerical examples given along with each article. Theory articles & examples, exercise MCQs & numericals, all are included in these model papers.

From examination point of view, this chapter is very important and is also favourite to most of the teachers and students. This is because most often one numerical question is included from this chapter into the board papers. Attempting a numerical is somewhat easier as compared to the theory question so it is considered a blessing for the students. The students are, therefore, advised to include this chapter preferably into their preparation manual.

The marks weightage of this chapter is of 10 marks; 2 MCQs for 2 marks, two short questions for 4 marks and one long question or numerical for 4 marks. The long question of this chapter is paired with that of chapter 11 in Q. No. 8 of the subjective portion. Two short questions from this chapter are grouped with those of chapters 4,5 & 11 in Q. No. 3 of the subjective portion.

As far as variety is concerned, three types of papers are presented:

  • Half chapter tests
  • Complete chapter tests (regular syllabus)
  • Complete chapter tests (smart syllabus)

The detail of each category is given at their respective places.

A. Half Chapter Tests

Here are half chapter tests for chapter 8, chemistry-11. These are set according to the regular syllabus. The first half chapter syllabus includes articles 8.1 to 8.2, while second half syllabus includes articles 8.3 to 8.9. Related numerical examples, textbook exercise numericals and MCQs are also the part of the syllabus.

Two types of tests with rerspect to marks are prepared; one of 25 and other of 30 marks. 30 marks tests contain one additional long question and one more multiple choice question.

While, 40 marks tests contain eight MCQs, ten short qustions and three long questions. The 30 marks tests are used at the start of the testing session while 40 marks tests are used at advanced stages of testing.

C. Smart Syllabus Tests

These are complete chapter tests arranged according to smart syllabus. ‘Smart Syllabus Tests’ have about 40% short syllabus due to Covid-19 Pandemic. In smart syllabus, some topics from the chapter are omitted. For example, in chaptr 8, topic number 8.6 & 8.9 are excluded, while the remaining topics are the part of the smart syllabus.

Smart syllabus tests also include two categories: first of 25 marks and second of 30 marks. The difference between them is that 30 marks tests contain one additional MCQ and one more long question, so these tests offer more writing practice.
