What particles are present within atom, how they were discovered, what their properties are, how electrons are arranged around the nucleus, all these are the subject matter of this chapter. In this perspective, you will study here the discovery of electrons, the discovery of protons, the discovery of neutrons, X-rays, Rutherford’s atomic model, Plank’s quantum theory, Bohr’s atomic model, spectrum, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, quantum numbers, shapes of the orbitals, the electronic configuration of atoms and their related rules. So, this may be regarded as the fundamental chapter of chemistry, without which no other concept of chemistry can be clearly understood.
Examination weightage of this chapter counts for 16 marks. Two multiple choice questions (MCQ) of 2 marks, four short questions of 8 marks and one long question of 4 marks are included from this chapter in the board papers. So, this is one of the marks rich chapter of the book.
In boards pairing scheme, this chapter is usually paired with chapter 3 of the textbook. The short questions of this chapter are grouped with those of chapters 4, 8, 11 in question 3 of section I of the Subjective portion of the paper. So short questions of chapter 4 must also be prepared along with chapter 5 by the student if he wants to attempt full eight short questions from question 3.

A. Half Chapter Tests
The PDFs of half chapter tests for chapter 5 chemistry-11 are given below. These are according to the regular syllabus. The first half syllabus includes topics from 5.1 to 5.5. The topic names are; discovery of electron discovery of protons, discovery of neutron, Millikan’s oil drop method, Plank’s quantum theory, Bohr’s model of atom, spectrum & defects in Bohr’s model. The related examples, numerical questions and MCQs from the textbook exercise are also included in these half chapter tests.
The second half chapter syllabus covers from topic number 5.6 to 5.9. The articles included are; X-rays and atomic number, wave-particle nature of matter, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, quantum numbers, shapes of orbitals and the electronic distribution. These tests are so skillfully arranged that they are very helpful in clearing the genuine concepts about these important topics.
The half chapter tests also contain two types of marks categories; first of 25 marks and the second of 30 marks. These are managed for initial and advanced levels of students respectively. They also provide better selection options for the teacher.

C. Smart Syllabus Tests
These are Chemistry-11, chapter 5 model papers that are prepared according to the smart syllabus. In smart syllabus, some of the topics have been omitted. For example, topic number 5.6 which is about the discovery and properties of X-rays, and the topic number 5.9 which is about electronic distribution and their rules have been excluded from the smart syllabus.
Two types of tests are available here; one of 25 marks which contain nine MCQ’s, 6 short questions and one long question. These are for initial level students. The second type is of 30 marks which contains 10 MCQs, 6 short questions and two long questions. These are for second stage students. This variety of tests also provides wider choice options to the teacher.
